Dr Celia is an experienced general practice wildlife veterinarian and accepts all wildlife in need (except venomous snakes, due to a lack of appropriate safety gear and facilities at our clinic). There is no charge for this service to the public, and we are privileged to offer generous discounts for licensed wildlife caretakers. Dr Celia is also vaccinated for rabies virus and able to treat bats in need. Please do not handle bats yourself If you come across a bat in need, or a bat is trapped in an inappropriate space, please call WIRES or Sydney Wildlife. An appropriately vaccinated and trained wildlife rescuer can attend and retrieve the bat safely. Please note that if an unwell bat bites or scratches you, we may need to euthanise the bat to be tested for bat lyssavirus. Bat Lyssavirus is related to rabies; while it is rare that it transfers to humans or pets like rabies, it has been documented. The only way the bat can be tested for your safety is for it to be euthanised, so PLEASE do not handle bats in need; allow the appropriate professional to assist!
